Yes it was taken apart and cleaned and lubed, the machine was purchased used, not new. It's nice little machine, it's really a micro mill not mini but looking at it you would be hard to spot the differences, it has a MT2 and small motor and no thrust bearing on the Y axis crank handle.

Cute little bugger. Not to make the HF jealous, it is cute as well. If you are looking to mill steel, and expect good, repeatable results, the minimum is a big benchtop mill. I have a HF geared head mill that produces great results, but even at 800 lbs and everything locked down, I am limited to quite light cuts in steel and slow feed rates.

The Micro mill goes down in size from the mini mill. Rather than go micro I would go Sherline or Taig mills. I also have the Sherline and althoughit is a very fine mill for small stuff I find I use my mini mill more. Even with the plastic gears it takes better cuts and can handle larger projets. Still the mini mill is not a Bridgport. Bill
This is a HF X1 mill stripped down with both X and Y replaced with HG20 rails and ballscrews. The working area is ~260mm X, 150mm Y, and 240mm Z. The Z is a KR33 bolted onto the back of the original column (the column is reversed with the dovetail on the back now).
